Have you ever taken some time to ask yourself what really makes Portugal the ultimate golf destination for a lot of enthusiasts?

How To Improve Your Putting Aim In 4 Simple Steps

For all the great shots that golfers can hit off the tee, out of rough or bunker, anyone that can master putting and cut out 3 putts will certainly see their scores, and as a consequence their handicap, fall. The putter is the most used club in the golf bag so it is worth spending time refining your skills so that you are confident of your ability to putt well under pressure.

Putting requires nerve, judgement, technique and routine. It is not a matter of fitness or strength so there is no real reason why all golfers cannot become proficient with their putter. After all it is the easiest shot to practice; your stroke can even be practised on the carpet at home.

You should begin by putting the putter grip between the two palms of your hand and close your fingers around it with your left palm above your right if you are right-handed. You don’t actually have to be putting to get used to a comfortable grip.

You must create a stable stance when you are putting. Ideally your feet should be the width of your shoulders though on windy days some people prefer them to be slightly wider. The ball should be in the middle of your stance with your head looking down directly over it.

Whether the hole is only a yard away or right across the green you need to get your alignment correct. If you are on a green with many undulations both ahead and across the green you may not be able to aim straight at the hole. You have to judge the potential break and select the line you need to take, and the pace you need to hit the ball.

You should never ‘stab’ at the ball. You should aim to take the putter back the distance you feel you require to get the pace you want and then follow through a similar distance after you have struck the ball.

The real secret to putting is to follow a routine every single time, even if you have just a couple of feet to go. You will need to practice and a course’s putting green should tell you how quick the greens will be when you start to play. Spend some time on it before you start and it will pay dividends.
