Golf Trips To Portugal's Santa Cruz: Planning The Ultimate Vacation

Where is Santa Cruz?

If you've only heard of Santa Cruz in Northern California, here is some brief information on the city and parish of Santa Cruz, located on the eastern part of the island of Madeira. Santa Cruz is located on the coast and the nearest airport is Santa Catarina Aiport. The airport lies 2.5 kilometers and a 6 minutes drive from Santa Cruz. You can reach Santa Cruz from most European capitals in a three or four hour flight.

"I've heard of Madeira but..."

Many people are familiar with the name but few people know about the island located 360 miles west of Morocco and 540 miles southwest of Lisbon. There are actually several Islands in the area, with only Madeira and Porto Santo being inhabited. Because of the effect of the Gulf Stream, Madeira enjoys warm, comfortable summers and mild winters. Madeira's mountains and the annual rainfall create an extraordinary climate that is home to lush vegetation.

Madeira or The Algarve?

While the Algarve region dominates the Portuguese golf scene, the might not last for long as Madeira is becoming an increasingly popular destination for families and golfing couples.

While there are similarities such as the language and cuisine, and while both places have great coastlines, Madeira has its own charm. Here are some of the features you'll enjoy:

  • Walking opportunities
  • Mountains
  • Flowers and vegetation
