Tips From A Golfer Who Tried Quinta Do Lago North Golf Course
Quinta do Lago has a new addition to its already popular golf facility – the Quinta Do Lago North Golf Course. First built in the 1970s, the North Course was completely redesigned and renovated by Beau Welling a couple of years back. He worked along with Paul McGinley, Ryder Cup Captain, to make the Quinta Do Lago North the best golf course in Algarve. As someone who has played on this iconic golf course, I would like to state a few points that’ll give you a better understanding of this golf course.
- The renovation done by Beau Welling was not just a few minor changes to the course. It was a comprehensive effort that resulted in a complete reworking of cart paths, drainage systems, greens, bunkers, and tees. The architect wanted to create a course that would give absolute pleasure to its guests.

Golfers who believe that systems and technology can be used to create and manage golf courses in an environmentally friendly manner will love the Quinta do Lago North. The course uses solar energy, recycled water, and various other techniques to minimize the impact on the surroundings.
-
When playing on this course, stay focused while hitting the shots. That’s because the stunning landscape could easily prove to be highly distracting. The Quinta Do Lago is situated in a quiet countryside that’s bordered by the Ria Formosa National Park and the Atlantic Ocean.
-
In 2014, after renovation, the North Course was hailed by the World Golf Awards as the ‘Best New Golf Course in Europe’. Awards and recognitions are not new to this course. From the 70s till now, the course has won many awards for excellence.
-
Another important point to remember before you begin a round of golf is that the original course was designed by many architects. It’s a crucial piece of information because you have different parts of the course designed differently by many architects. Two sets of holes – from first to fifth and the final three holes – fifteenth to eighteenth – were designed by William Mitchell. The rest – from sixth to fourteenth – were done by Rocky Roquemore and Joseph Lee.
-
Accurate stroke play is the key to a decent score on par-3 holes, which are fairly open and windy. Except the tenth and thirteenth, other par-4 holes at the North Course are doglegged. At thirteenth and the eighteenth, players have to negotiate lakes to reach the green. The signature hole at North Course is the twelfth. Finally, this 18-hole, par-72, course has four wonderful par-5s. So, don’t practice long drives before heading to the Quinta Do Lago North Golf Course.
