There are two big resorts/collections of golf courses in Villamoura: he Oceanico group and the Pestana group. These conglomerates dominate the Villamorua golf scene and in this article, we will discuss what both have to offer.
This course is 18 holes and par 72 so you will need to have gotten plenty of rest and sleep before you play a full round on this monster in the Algarve heat. As you can tell from the name, the course was opened during Y2K so it does not have a great deal of history compared to other Algarve courses such as Penina. Some of the fairways on the millennium course are wide open while others are narrower and lined with pine trees on both sides creating a narrow corridor that you have to thread your ball down.
Another 18 holes par 72 course. The Laguna opened in 1990 and was designed by Joseph Lee who has been involved in the design of many Algarve golf courses. Laguna is a fairly flat and wide-open track with some water hazards you will need to avoid so you don't ruin your score. Here are the remaining three courses that are under the Oceanico umbrella:
Teh Pestana group have created two remarkable golf courses; the Gramacho and Vale da Pinta. The Gramacho one of the few designs by the former world nº 1 and British Open winner, Nick Price.
Vale da Pinta was designed by R. Fream and includes a Golf Academy in its ground. Inside the golf academy is a driving range with covered bays to hide you from the strong Algarve sun.
Here are the other four Pestana Golf courses; Silves, Alto, Vila Sol and Beloura. You can't go wrong with any of them.
Many of the great Vilamoura golf courses mentioned here are located near the Dom Pedro hotel. The hotel is an ideal hub to base yourself while you play many of the golf courses nearby. Some of the facilities in the hotel include: a Sauna, swimming pool, hairdresser, Volleyball court, and so on.
Those who are adventurous area also able to take some time after their golfing exploits, to enjoy some of the country’s deep sea fishing expeditions, among a host of other water sporting activities that line the sea shore. Truly Portugal is paradise not just for the avid golfer, but it is one place where anyone would be happy to visit at any time of the year.
